https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/490

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/408

The global environmental crisis demands a deconstruction of the legal paradigm that is still dominated by anthropocentrism, a view that places humans at the center of all norms and interests. Using a qualitative approach with a library study design, this article explores the thoughts of Bruno Latour and Murray Bookchin as two philosophers who offer alternative approaches to the relationship between humans, law, and nature. Through Latour's perspective, law is understood as a network of actors, including non-human actors (nature), who have agency in political and legal processes. Meanwhile, Bookchin emphasizes the importance of social ecology and critiques hierarchical domination as the root of the ecological crisis. This article is a critical philosophical study with descriptive and reflective content analysis. This research shows that current ecological inequality is a highly dominant and hierarchical social structure. Actors in the formulation of law or policy are often limited, and the broader community is not widely involved in the policy-making process. This article is expected to encourage the reformulation of environmental law that is more inclusive of the entire network of actors in responding to contemporary ecological challenges—including the moral crisis within them.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/401

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/393

This research was conducted with the aim of identiying the subsurface structures of the geothermal area of ??Sonai Village and its surroundings, Puriala, Konawe using the Second Vertical Derivative (SVD) method. The magnetic data used were obtained through measurements at 126 points. The total magnetic anomaly value obtained after Diurnal and IGRF corrections was -171.17 to 82.47 nT. After carrying out Upward Continuation and further processing, a residual magnetic field anomaly value of around -150 to 90 nT was obtained. Then the SVD method is applied to residual anomalous data that has been reduced to the Pole. Based on the SVD results and 2D modeling, several types of fault structures were found in the research area, consisting of 2 upward faults and 4 normal faults. The closest minor fault to the manifestation is at coordinates 4°1'16.41"S and 122°7'23.23"E which is ±16 meters from the manifestation. These minor faults are thought to be the geothermal pathways, causing the water to become hot in the manifestation area. In addition, it was also found that the subsurface layers of the Sonai area and its surroundings are composed of 3 formations, namely Alluvium Deposits, Alangga Formation and Ultramafic Complex.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/304

Climate change has impacted the sustainability of human life in the world both for the survival of current humans and future generations. The purpose of writing this article is to explain the role of environmental ethics and intergenerational justice in responding to climate change so as to realize a sustainable life for the future. The method used is a qualitative method supported by sources of scientific articles, journals, research reports that support and are related to the main discussion. The results of the research show that environmental ethics and intergenerational justice have contributed to efforts to change the way humans view nature and climate change. The occurrence of climate change is partly caused by excessive human activities without paying attention to aspects of environmental balance. In addition, the views of environmental ethics and intergenerational justice can be integrated through policies in natural resource management so as to consider the sustainability of future life. Policies related to climate change need to be implemented and reflect intergenerational justice that is sustainable for the future.
that is sustainable for the future. Thus, environmental ethics and intergenerational justice have a strong relationship with the environment.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/424

Plastic waste in Indonesia continues to increase and poses a complex environmental problem. Poor waste management leads to pollution and decreases the quality of life. Therefore, a solution is needed that is not only environmentally friendly but also integrates social, economic, technological, and educational aspects. This study aims to systematically review the potential of ecobricks as a multidimensional solution for plastic waste management. It analyzes 18 community service articles published between 2015 and 2025 from five national and international databases using a narrative-thematic synthesis method. The results show that ecobricks encourage community participation in waste management, open up economic opportunities through value-added products, and significantly reduce plastic waste volume. Technologically, ecobricks have sufficient strength for non-structural construction. In the education sector, ecobricks help improve environmental awareness and literacy among students and the general public. This study recommends strengthening local policies, continuous training, and further research to assess the durability of ecobricks in various environmental conditions.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/373

This study analyzes the variability of sea surface temperature (SST) in the coastal waters of Cilacap and Pangandaran, South Java Sea, during the 1993–2022 period using satellite data from Marine Copernicus. The analysis covers long-term trends, interannual fluctuations, and seasonal patterns related to regional oceanographic dynamics such as ENSO and seasonal upwelling. The results show a warming trend of SST at 0.06 ± 0.02 °C per decade, indicating the influence of regional climate change. Interannual variability highlights significant cooling in 1997 (La Niña) and extreme warming in 1998 and 2010 (El Niño). Seasonal patterns reveal the highest SST from March to May during the west monsoon, and the lowest SST in August–September due to upwelling. Upwelling plays an important role in regulating sea temperatures and supporting biological productivity. These findings underscore the importance of SST monitoring for climate-adaptive marine resource management in the southern coastal region of Java.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/275

The Seribu Islands National Park, located north of Jakarta, is a primary marine tourism destination with its beautiful coral reefs as the main attraction. However, the increasing number of visitors is negatively impacting the coral reefs. To mitigate these effects, the role of stakeholders is crucial. Six institutions manage this area: the Seribu Islands National Park Authority (BTNKS), the local government, the tourism office, local communities, entrepreneurs, and NGOs. However, these six institutions do not collaborate harmoniously and often experience overlapping functions. This study aims to analyze the appropriate institutional framework for sustainable marine tourism management using interpretative structural modeling (ISM) with data from expert discussions. The results indicate that BTNKS, the Seribu Islands Regency Government, and the Tourism Office play significant roles. The main challenges that must be addressed urgently include weak inter-institutional coordination, ineffective law enforcement, and inadequate knowledge among tour guides. The necessary program involves building coordination and partnerships, as well as developing the capacity of tour guides.

Vinasse utilization as biogas forming substrate requires special handling because of it’s acidic state which is inhibitor to methanogens. At start-up, the performance of microbial group should be in state of equilibrium between methanogens and non-methanogens. This is attempted by adding inhibitor substrates incrementally. Start-up conduct in semi continue process with vinasse dry base composition 0% (S0), 50% (S1), 75% (S2), 90% (S3) up to 100% (S4). Biodigester loading rate is 40 kg/(m3/hari) with 8 litre effective slurry volume. Substrat is fed at 6,5% TS. The best pH stability obtained on S2 feed composition which is 6.3 for eleven consecutive days. This reflects the balance of methanogen and non-methanogenic microbes performance. The highest average daily biogas production was achieved at feed composition S3 of 3780mL even though the average pH tended to decrease to 6.18. At S4, pH and average biogas volume is decreased significanly to 5.9 and 1932mL.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/298

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/318

Tofu industry waste consists of solid and liquid waste. Tofu liquid waste contains high organic materials such as C, H, O, N, P, and S, which are useful as nutrients for plants. This study was conducted to see the difference in the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizer from tofu liquid waste, considering that the levels of elements in each production unit are not the same. In this study, the effectiveness test was carried out on curly red chili plants (Capsicum annum L.). The experiment was carried out with a simple randomized block design and the data obtained were analyzed by the F test with a level of 5% if there was a significant difference followed by a 5% BNT test. Based on the analysis of variance, it is known that the growth of curly red chili plants (Capsicum annum L.) including plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and leaf diameter is influenced by the provision of fertilizer and the type of waste as the basic material for fertilizer. While the wet weight and length of plant roots are not affected by the provision of fertilizer or the type of waste.

https://www.journals.ecotas.org/index.php/ems/en/article/view/278

Global plastic production has exceeded 300 million tons annually since 2014, driven by their durability, versatility, and low cost. However, plastic pollution has become a major issue, particularly affecting freshwater and marine ecosystems. Bali, a popular tourist destination in Indonesia, suffers from severe plastic pollution due to high tourist numbers and inadequate waste management. This review highlights the urgent need to adopt successful NGO models and technologies while implementing comprehensive policies and enhancing public awareness. Addressing not only the consumption phase but also production and post-consumption phases is crucial. Accelerating recycling technology and facility development through the formal sector is essential. A circular economy approach, supported by key stakeholders, is vital for improving plastic waste management in Bali. Effective waste management is crucial for environmental preservation and the long-term sustainability of Bali's tourism industry, which is key to its economic future.

Analytical methods were implemented via the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) within GIS. The results indicated that alterations manifested as abrasion and accretion with differing magnitudes. From 2014 to 2018 and from 2018 to 2023, notable alterations transpired, with the maximum erosion value attaining -37.98 m in the Kelapa Lima sub-district and the peak deposition measuring 187.09 m in the Kota Lama sub-district. From 2014 to 2018, the regions impacted by abrasion in Kelapa Lima, Kota Lama, and Alak measured 4.01 hectares, 0.63 hectares, and 1.24 hectares, respectively. This technology enables the management and analysis of visual data, offering great temporal resolution, cost-effectiveness, and extensive coverage.
